  • description: Just a quick review of the Walkera Devention 2402D 4-channel radio in which I look at its internal construction and use of the 2.4GHz band. This radio is (as I originally suspected) a DSSS system that uses 3 separate frequencies on the 2.4GHz band. This makes it better than DSM2 but still nowhere near as good as the now common FHSS systems when it comes to punching through interference that may affect a large portion of the band. Internally, the design and construction is generally very good - although I still wonder why these manufacturers use a 9.6V battery when the electronics only requires somewhere between 2.5V and 5V to operate. Because it uses a linear regulator, much of the power in that 9.6V battery ends up being converted to heat. Summary: The Devention radios are perfectly adequate for the Ladybird and other small multi-rotors or helicopters but I would not recommend their use in larger, faster models such as jets or gasers - mainly due to the minimal utilization of the 2.4GHz band.
