The tornado swept through Funing County of Yancheng City at around 14:00, with wind force reaching 34.6 meters per second. Houses on its path were destroyed, vehicles blown away and the workshops of a local factory were completely razed to the ground. The tornado proceeded to batter the city of Huaian in the afternoon. In Lianshui County, the one-hour rainfall reached 102 millimeters. Local authorities have organized rescue efforts. By 19:00, the tornado had caused a total of 51 deaths. The injured have been sent to hospitals. The affected areas are densely populated, and the death toll is expected to rise.
