- description: There are many reasons why a woman might decide to end a pregnancy--and many barriers to safe and legal abortion. As the next historic battle for reproductive freedom reaches the US Supreme Court, we must stand up and speak out. http://drawtheline.org Above, actress Dascha Polanco of Orange Is the New Black shares the story of Kayleigh, a young woman who describes the care and considerations that went into her decision to have an abortion. The video is part of a series, the Draw the Line Monologues, in which top actresses bring much-needed attention to the diverse experiences women across the U.S. face when they make the very personal decision to end a pregnancy. The Center for Reproductive Rights worked with individual women like Kayleigh to develop the scripts so they accurately reflect their gripping personal experiences. The stories were submitted to the Center’s Draw the Line campaign by women across the country who were inspired to speak out as a way to urge more Americans to stand up for reproductive freedom. The Center for Reproductive Rights is heading to the U.S. Supreme Court for the most important reproductive rights case in almost 25 years. The case, Whole Woman’s Health v. Cole, will determine whether Texas can shut down nearly all abortion care providers in the state, placing countless women at risk of serious harm. For more than 40 years, the Supreme Court has said the Constitution protects a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her health and family, including abortion. Now the Court must reject political schemes to prevent women from acting on these personal decisions. The health of millions of women in Texas—and across the country—is at stake. The majority of Americans support the constitutional right to safe and legal abortion. Now’s the time to show the Supreme Court that you’re one of them. The Draw the Line campaign consists of three parts: - Personal Stories: Anyone can share their story of why reproductive rights has mattered to them. - Draw the Line Monologues: Celebrities read real women’s stories about the importance of safe, legal abortion care. - Take the Challenge: Show that you agree it’s time to draw the line. Share the message on social media with the hashtag #DrawTheLine. We’re asking you to stand with us against political attacks on reproductive health care and say: This is where I draw the line.
