- description: This machine is used to strengthen and tone the muscle of the inner thigh (specifically the semitendinosis and to some extent, the semimembranosus). These are actually hamstring muscles which act to rotate the leg inward. Start exercise seated upright with knees outside pads of machine. Using lever arm of the machine, set pads apart to a distance that stretches, but not over-stretches the hip. Squeeze pads together and pause each repetition. The pause will have an isometric effect on the muscles and work much better than doing the exercise without it.
